Camera quantity alone does not determine system effectiveness. Each view should have a defined purpose, such as observation, activity monitoring, vehicle coverage, or identification.

Where supported and appropriate, systems may include human and vehicle classification, line crossing, intrusion areas, people counting, vehicle detection, licence-plate recognition, object search, event notifications, smart search, and occupancy functions.

Analytics must support a clearly defined operational purpose and must not replace appropriate camera placement, lighting, recording, or human review.
